RONCE DISPLAY — REGULAR
Original type Study / October 2026
Working name and design proof, version 0.101.

Open specimen.html in your browser. Its font, styles, editor, and poster
previews are embedded, so it works offline. Keep the output folder beside
the HTML if you want to use its font download links.

THE DESIGN
A broad, high-contrast editorial serif. Vertical stress, long extenders,
fine bracketed serifs, ball terminals, diamond punctuation, and a two-storey
g. R has a rising return; Q has a descending sweep. Drawn from new cubic
outlines. The build and specimen infrastructure is shared with the earlier
Pli study; the letterforms are newly drawn for this design.

310 glyphs; 299 encoded characters; distinct uppercase and lowercase.
Proportional lining figures, with optional 600-unit tabular figures (tnum).
2,125 expanded kerning pairs. 1000 UPM; 700 cap height; 470 x-height.

USE
Install either the OTF or TTF using Font Book. Select Ronce Display / Regular.
Start around 60 px and above; the fine hairlines are intended for display use.
Use NFC-normalized text for accented characters. The specimen normalizes
input and identifies unsupported characters that will use a fallback font.

STATUS
A working single display master. Unhinted. No italic, variable axes, or
combining-mark positioning. Not independently reviewed or field-tested as
a retail family. The next useful test is setting actual titles and covers,
then refining spacing and punctuation in response to those layouts.

CHECKS
Font/source checks passed (see output/validation-report.json for the count). All exports reopened successfully, glyph
bounds fit the vertical metrics, and lowercase is distinct. HarfBuzz verifies
kerning, accent inheritance, and tabular substitution. FreeType renders both
desktop formats. An exact outline-intersection audit found no collisions in
2,704 basic Latin letter pairs at the default spacing and kerning.
45 CSS/DOM checks passed for typing, multiline input, escaping, accents,
fallback notices, size, tracking, leading, kerning, tabular figures, sample
buttons, colours, and reset at desktop and mobile defaults.
PNG proofs and posters were visually inspected. Actual browser rendering was
not verified because the available browser automation blocks local URLs.

REBUILD
Install source/requirements.txt in a Python environment, then run:
  python source/build.py
  python source/make_specimen.py
  python source/validate.py
For editor checks, install Node.js dependencies linkedom and cssom, then:
  node source/test-specimen.cjs
Poster labels currently use the macOS Helvetica system font.

REVISION 0.101 — JOIN CORRECTIONS
The lower connecting curve of u has more substance; accented u forms inherit
the change. The diagonal/base join of 2 no longer pinches across itself.
The upper ball-terminal joins of 3 and 6 are smoother and more continuous;
9 inherits the shared 6 drawing. The link of g now overlaps its upper bowl.
Tabular figures inherit all digit corrections. Advance widths and kerning
are preserved. All desktop fonts, the embedded specimen font, UFO source,
word/glyph proofs and posters have been rebuilt.
proofs/Join-Revision-Comparison.png shows the old and revised drawings.
The six affected glyphs remain connected after six-unit edge erosion at
1000 px/em in both desktop formats. This regression specifically detects
the weak joins that ordinary coverage and bounds checks did not catch.
If you installed 0.100, replace it with 0.101 and reopen the design app.

COORDINATED STUDY EDITION
The current specimen has seven sections: large cover, font information, full
character set, eight sizes, dense poster, interactive glyphs and font in use.
A matching seven-page vector PDF is in output/pdf/. The font-in-use example
is an imagined application. Study is the shared identity across the series.
The shared builder is ../type-studies/source/build.py; its config, CSS and
JavaScript are included in the complete Study collection. The existing font
proof builder calls it automatically when that shared folder is available.
Use the complete collection archive to rebuild or navigate all five studies.
