KERVO DISPLAY / BLACK / STUDY 02
Version 0.101 / October 2026

OPEN
Open specimen.html in a browser. The seven-section Study edition includes a
cover, font information, full character set, editable eight-size specimen,
dense poster, interactive glyph inspector and an imagined event identity.
The font, images and outlines are embedded. Downloads are in output/.
output/pdf/Kervo-Study.pdf is the matching seven-page vector edition.

REVISION 0.101
R: continuous bowl-to-leg transition replaces the tiny triangular cut.
K: one coherent outline replaces the overlapping arms and narrow notch.
A: a broader crown and flat-topped counter reinforce the heavy horizontals.
V and Y: flat inner turns and broader joins replace needle-point interiors.
W: the same flat turns and broader feet carry the revision across the diagonals.
C: two clear sloping terminals replace the nearly horizontal aperture cuts.
G: an open counter below the crossbar replaces the near-tangent hairline.
Q: the tail reaches decisively into the counter and joins the right side.
Accents and derived glyphs are rebuilt from these revised base drawings.

PROOFS
proofs/Kervo-Revision-Comparison.png compares version 0.100 with 0.101.
proofs/Kervo-Revision-Sizes.png tests the revision at 24 through 144 px.
proofs/character-proof.png covers the alphabet, figures, accents and spacing.
Kervo-Poster.png and Kervo-Afterhours.png are additional poster proofs.

THE FONT
One black weight; 187 glyphs; 302 encoded characters; 1,226 kerning pairs.
Latin capitals, tabular figures, punctuation, currency signs and accents.
CAPS ONLY: lowercase input intentionally maps to capital drawings.
The original design uses heavy horizontals, asymmetric rounded counters,
broad diagonal terminals and open apertures. Kervo is a working name.

output/KervoDisplay-Black.otf / desktop OpenType, cubic outlines
output/KervoDisplay-Black.ttf / desktop TrueType, quadratic outlines
output/KervoDisplay-Black.woff2 / compressed web font

To install on macOS, open the OTF or TTF in Font Book. Use one desktop format.
Replace an earlier installed Kervo version to avoid duplicate-font confusion.

STATUS AND VERIFICATION
Working, unhinted display master. No lowercase drawings, italics, additional
weights, variable axes or combining-mark positioning. Use precomposed accents
or NFC-normalized text. Headline use at 48 px and above remains its main role;
24 and 32 px proofs stress-test the joins and apertures.

All three exports are reopened to check inventory, names, version and bounds.
HarfBuzz checks kerning, accented kerning and lowercase mapping. FreeType
checks R K A V W Y C G Q in OTF and TTF at 24, 32, 48 and 96 px: each has one
connected ink shape and the expected open or enclosed counter topology.
The HTML editor, glyph search, embedded font and download paths are checked
through DOM tests. Actual automated browser rendering remains unverified
because the browser tool blocks local URLs. PDF pages are rendered and reviewed.

SOURCE / REBUILD
Install source/requirements.txt in a Python environment, then run:
  python source/build.py
  python source/make_specimen.py
  python source/validate.py
  python source/proof_revision.py
For a new before/after comparison, pass --before /path/to/previous-font.ttf.

source/outlines.json contains the SVG paths and advance widths.
source/kerning.fea contains OpenType pair positioning.
The coordinated specimen builder is ../type-studies/source/build.py.
make_specimen.py calls it when available. Keep the complete Study collection
to rebuild the seven-section edition or navigate the five typefaces.
Node.js checks need linkedom and cssom: node source/test-specimen.cjs.
Keep output/ beside specimen.html so its font and PDF downloads resolve.
